What to Expect During Your Visit

Check in at the front desk
Our receptionist will acknowledge you, get your insurance authorization (if you have insurance) and get your file ready.

Pretests

Our pretester will call you from the reception room and walk you over to the pretest room.

Autorefractor
Measures the curvature of the front part of your eye to find out if you are nearsighted, farsighted or if you have astigmatism.
This is also needed for contact lens evaluations.

Tonometry
Measures the pressure of the eye. If the eye pressure is too high, it can lead to glaucoma.

Visual Field
Checks that your peripheral vision (side vision) is intact. Loss of peripheral vision can be a sign of glaucoma, brain tumor or aneurysm, for example.

Retinal Scan
Photograph of the retina (the back of the eye). The most debilitating eye diseases are located in the back of the eye, so it is crucial to rule out any retinal eye diseases. 

Exam Room
Our pretester will walk you from the pretest room to the exam room, where you will meet Dr Verret.

Phoroptor
The eye doctor uses it to determine your prescription.
He will change the lenses in front of your eyes and ask you which lens you see the clearest out of.

Biomicroscope
The purpose of this instrument to look at the front of your eye under magnification and make sure that there are no cataracts or ultra-violet damage, for example.

Reviewing test results and recommendations
This is the most important part of the eye exam
The eye doctor will review all the test results and prescribe one or more of the following:
Glasses
Sunglasses
Contact lenses
Eye vitamins
Eye drops

and will also explain the reason(s) you need this (those) items.

The doctor will also take time to answer any questions you may have.

Dispensary

Selecting the frames
Once the eye exam is completed, the doctor will escort you to the dispensary (the room with all the frames) and introduce you to an optician.
The doctor will explain to the optician what was prescribed and why it was prescribed.

Selecting the lenses
Next, the optician will go over with you what the doctor has prescribed and, most importantly, how this will help you eliminate (or greatly reduce) this issues you are experiencing with your eyes.

Frame fitting and measurements

The optician will ensure that the frame fits perfectly and take some measurements.


Checking Out
The optician will let you know how long it will take for your glasses and sunglasses (and contact lenses if applicable) to arrive at our office.
We will text you as soon as they come in to our office.
It is possible to leave with non-prescription sunglasses the same day as your visit.
